Functional Skills Tutor
To assist our Programme delivery, we are seeking multiskilled tutors with subject knowledge and experience of teaching and working with young people, to deliver Functional Skills Maths & English Entry 1 to Level 2
The course will also require a strong pastoral support element. Applicants should have prior experience of working with young people facing barriers to achievement or having Special Educational Needs (SEN). In addition to:
• Qualified to at least PTTLS level
• Core skills to Level 2 in English and/or Maths
• Experience in teaching English and/or Maths
• Outstanding personal written and verbal communication skills
• Experience of working with adult learners
Job Description: Functional Skills Tutor
Contract Type: Freelance or Part time positions available.
Remuneration: depending on experience and skills set.
Working Pattern: 2-3 days per week, Mon-Sun (days can be flexible).
Location: London with some opportunities to deliver online
Responsible to: Managing Director
Purpose of Post: The role is to deliver either Maths, English or both subjects in Functional Skills
Key Duties:
1. Plan and deliver English and / or Maths curriculum and prepare young people for exams in Functional Skills
2. Ensure all learners receive an effective initial assessment, accurately identifying any additional learning needs. Ensure that this process supports and informs the learning process, enables individualised target and goal setting and the mapping of progress throughout the programme.
3. Where additional learning support needs are identified, or a young person holds and Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), ensure that a clear plan is put in in collaboration with the relevant curriculum lead to meet these needs and plan teaching to meet these additional needs.
4. Ensure that all learner pre-enrolment information and initial assessment information is used to plan for effective delivery and differentiation of learning.
5. Direct and support any learning support requirements within the classroom to ensure effective support is targeted and planned for learners with Special Educational Needs
6. Feed-into and contribute to ILPs and 1-2-1 progress reviews to support learning and evidence progress for every learner.
7. To complete documentation in an accurate, organised, and timely manner ensuring compliance with contract funding requirements
8. Ensure assessment of learning is ongoing, effective, and delivered as per the assessment plan/ schedule. Where actions to improve are identified, ensure that a clear plan of action is put in place and followed with demonstrable impact on the quality of assessment, including evidencing and tracking of student progress.
9. Work with the vocational tutor team to ensure that Functional Skills are embedded throughout the curriculum and that opportunities to embed are implemented and built into the Scheme of Work.
10. Liaise with the Quality Manager and IQA as appropriate; to ensure awarding body registration, unit delivery and assessment are achieved effectively and in a timely manner.
Curriculum Planning:
1. Ensure all course delivery and assessment meets the criteria set out by awarding bodies.
2. Maintain accurate and timely records of learner attendance
3. Create a positive environment for learning and set high expectations for the teaching teams in relation to standards of student attendance, punctuality, achievement, and the quality of teaching, learning and assessment.
Quality Improvement:
1. Report on termly Course Performance Reviews (CPRs), reviewing all learner progress and support needs throughout the year with the Centre Manager.
2. Provide input where required for Self-Assessment and Quality Improvement Planning for the curriculum area, as part of the organisational Self-Assessment and Quality Improvement Plan processes.

• Hold a formal teaching qualification at level 3 (CTLLS or equivalent) or above Knowledge and Experience
• At least 6 months previous experience of teaching in subject area, ideally in a post 16 setting
• A demonstrable record of success in previous roles.
• Significant successful experience of teaching relevant course areas.
• Up to date knowledge of the subject area, syllabus requirements and appropriate teaching techniques; an awareness of requirements of awarding bodies.
• Knowledge and understanding of mechanisms for the identification, assessment, and support of learner needs.
• Understanding of equality and diversity within the curriculum, barriers to learning and strategies to overcome these.
• Experience in delivering teaching online using virtual technology e.g. Zoom/Teams/Google Classroom
